How to block “Sign in with Google” prompts in Safari (and probably other browsers)

I really don’t like those sign in prompts. You can disable them if you have a Google account and dig through your settings … but I don’t have a Google account logged in on my Safari browser.

I would burn them if I could

So … AdGuard it is! You’ll need to download it and install it and enable the custom rules.

Then you just need to add a simple rule. Open the app Adguard For Safari, and go to the User Rules section.

Then enter this:

||accounts.google.com/gsi*

It’ll look like this:

Save it. Then wait a bit (seconds, not minutes) for the rules to update. And then refresh and the prompt should be gone.

The first couple times I tried it I could not get it to work because I left a space in there after the ||. Make sure there is no space!

⚠️ Also, warning! This might block all sorts of Google login scripts for other things, who knows. So use at your own risk.

Of if you’re bold, just block everything from every Google domain and don’t worry about it. Spend your time IRL bedding whomever is up for it and responsibly indulging in vices.

(And like always, don’t run ad blockers on sites you want to support or generally any web apps you log into. Use them to take money away from those content mills clogging up our search results.)
